New Galaxy Tablet Available on October 2nd

Galaxy Tab 8.9Samsung has unveiled its new 8.9-inch Galaxy tablet running Google’s Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) operating system, and announced that it will be available on October 2nd, along with two new media players, the Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0.

The Galaxy tablet comes in two models, 16GB priced at $469, and 32GB priced at $569. The Galaxy Player 4.0 will go on sale for $269 and the 5.0 will sell for $229.

“These 3 additions to the Galaxy family of products are impressive examples of our commitment to offering consumers an unrivaled array of choices for entertainment and information on-the-go,” said Dale Sohn, Samsung president of mobile technology.

The tablets can be pre-ordered at www.samsung.com beginning today, but the media players will not be available until tomorrow or Wednesday.

The Galaxy 8.9 tablet joins its larger sibling , the Galaxy 10.1 tablet in Samsung’s line of personal tablet offerings. The 8.9 is 8.6 millimeters thick, and weighs under one pound. The touchscreen display has  a resolution of 1280-by-800 and sports Gorilla Glass.

Like with other Android devices, apps are downloaded through Google’s Android Marketplace, and the Galaxy comes with Samsung’s All-Share service for transferring content between the tablet and other devices like televisions, monitors, and digital cameras.

Under the hood, the new Galaxy tablet has a 1.5GHz, dual-core T205S central processor, a 6,100 mAh battery and two cameras—a rear-facing 3 MP camera and front-facing 2 MP camera.
