The 5th installment in the widely popular and successful Grand Theft Auto game series finally has a release date attached to it. Rockstar Games said yesterday that it will release on September 17.
A sequel to 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV, the game will be available on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 this fall. The timing of the release is later than the company had initially claimed, because developers needed additional time, according to the company. Initially, many in the industry had pegged the release date as spring, 2013.
This will be “the biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world Rockstar Games has yet created, blending storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game’s three lead characters, playing all sides of the game’s interwoven story,” said a company release.
The three lead characters are Franklin, a former street hood, Michael, an ex-con in retirement, and Trevor, a violent maniac who will stop at no costs. The game, of course, will be rated only for mature audiences.
Rockstar Games had first announced that there would be a 5th installment in the series in 2011, and released a trailer for the game at that time.
