PS4 Price Rumored to be Over $400

A number of rumors have come out over the past several days, some of them more credible than others, and one even tied to a major Japanese newspaper, that peg the price of Sony’s next console release, the PS4, at somewhere north of $400.

Japan’s top daily, the Asahi News just published a story on the PS4, and included mentions that it believes the console will launch toward the end of the year in both Japan and the US, priced around 40,000 Yen, which translates to just under $430.

Now rumors are rumors, but Asahi News is about equivalent to the New York Times – not exactly the kind of journalism outfit to be running with bad tips and half-baked assertions. At this point, it is the most believable printed piece on where the PS4 will land price-wise.

Some tech blogs in the U.S. are thinking that the numbers will actually shake lower, perhaps to a shelf price of $399. As with everything else surrounding Sony’s next big thing – we’ll just have to wait.
